Pixar’s latest film had an unexpected box office journey.
Following its unique theatrical run, ‘Elemental’ will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting September 13. This heartwarming story about love blossoming between individuals from different communities captivated audiences throughout the summer, chronicling the friendship between Ember Lumen (Leah Lewis) and Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie). Love conquered all obstacles, and soon viewers will have unlimited access to Pixar’s newest creation on their streaming platform.
In addition to ‘Elemental,’ the accompanying short that was screened during its theatrical release, ‘Carl’s Date,’ will also make its debut on Disney+. In ‘Carl’s Date,’ the protagonist from ‘Up,’ Carl (Ed Asner), embarks on a journey to reenter the world of dating after losing his wife. With decades having passed since his last first date, Carl seeks advice on how to prepare for an enjoyable evening with a potential partner. Thankfully, his talkative canine companion, Dug (Bob Peterson), offers relentless optimism and curiosity in an attempt to provide Carl with the best guidance.
‘Elemental’ transports viewers to a world inhabited by beings representing the major elements of nature, where fire people, water residents, air populations, and others must coexist, often leading to conflicts. Intercommunity dating is a rarity, but when Ember and Wade fall in love, they refuse to be bound by societal norms. Despite facing numerous challenges and disagreements, the couple ultimately finds their way back to each other, embarking on a new adventure together.
‘Elemental’s Unconventional Box Office Journey Upon its theatrical debut, ‘Elemental’ opened with a modest $29 million weekend box office earnings. Given its budget compared to Disney’s other major summer blockbusters, it initially appeared that the film might struggle to find success within the animation studio’s portfolio. However, the film’s powerful and endearing story resonated deeply with audiences, leading ‘Elemental’ to display remarkable resilience at the box office, eventually surpassing $400 million in global earnings. Such a recovery is uncommon for wide releases, making Pixar’s latest offering a remarkable and memorable case.
