Tom Cruise, known for his action hero roles, will join James Corden in a musical performance inspired by The Lion King for the farewell episode of The Late Late Show. Cruise will step into the role of Pumbaa, the fun-loving warthog, while Corden will portray Timon, Pumbaa’s witty meerkat friend. This performance will take place at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater and is part of The Last Last Late Late Show, a primetime special leading up to the final episode of Corden’s eight-season run as the show’s host.
Although Cruise is best known for his action-packed roles in films like the Mission: Impossible series and Jack Reacher, he’s embracing a change of pace by donning the Pumbaa costume for this special occasion. Corden, on the other hand, has showcased his talents in various animated and live-action movies, including Cats, Cinderella, Ocean’s 8, and Peter Rabbit.
Cruise’s recent movie, Top Gun: Maverick, achieved significant success, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 2022 and earning critical acclaim. It’s nominated in multiple categories at the 95th Academy Awards and has received recognition from the Golden Globes and various other award shows.
The success of Maverick has sparked discussions about a potential Top Gun 3, although producer Jerry Bruckheimer has yet to discuss the idea with Cruise. Meanwhile, Cruise is gearing up to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, set to hit theaters on July 14.
Fans can catch The Last Last Late Late Show primetime special featuring Cruise and Corden’s performance on CBS and Paramount+ at 10 p.m. ET on April 26, followed by the final episode of The Late Late Show at 12:37 a.m. ET on April 27. And for those who want to relive Maverick’s thrilling moments, the film is available for streaming on Paramount+ and Amazon Prime Video.
