Netflix anime’s official Twitter account unveiled a new trailer for “Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 1” on November 19, 2022. The trailer features a preview of the film’s theme song “LEMONADE” by Hiroyuki SAWANO and XAI vocal project SawanoHiroyuki. The movie is set to release on Netflix on December 20, 2022.
The cast includes Mikako Komatsu as Tristan, the son of Meliodas. Komatsu will voice Tristan as a child, while Ayumu Murase will voice the character as a teenager. Yuki Kaji will reprise his role as Meliodas.
The film follows an original story by the manga’s author and centers around Tristan. The official website provides the following plot description: Tristan possesses the healing powers of the Goddess Clan but struggles to control his Demon Clan power, often inadvertently causing harm to others. To protect his family, Tristan embarks on a journey to Edinburgh Castle and encounters new allies along the way.
The key staff members involved in the production include Chief Director Noriyuki Abe, Director Bob Shirahata, and Scriptwriter Rintarou Ikeda. The animation is handled by Alfred Imageworks and Marvy Jack.
In November 2021, the franchise released a teaser trailer alongside the announcement of the animated adaptation. Additionally, “The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse” manga will also be adapted into a TV anime, although further details are yet to be revealed.
“The Seven Deadly Sins” is a popular Japanese fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Nakaba Suzuki. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine from October 2012 to March 2020, with 41 tankōbon volumes published. The manga has been licensed for English publication by Kodansha USA and digitally released by Crunchyroll in over 170 countries.
The series has been adapted into a two-season anime by A-1 Pictures, with a theatrical film titled “Prisoners of the Sky.” Studio Deen produced two additional seasons and a second theatrical film titled “Cursed by Light.” Netflix holds the exclusive English streaming rights to the anime, while Funimation has licensed the home video rights to the first season.
As of March 2020, “The Seven Deadly Sins” had sold over 37 million copies. The manga won the 39th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2015.
