In the latest issue of Gangan Joker, the October edition unveiled an exciting announcement for fans of Kakegurui and its talented author, Homura Kawamoto. Collaborating with artist Kyo Yajima, Kawamoto will be launching a brand-new fantasy manga that is sure to captivate readers. Titled “The Hero Party’s Pack Mule” (also known as “Porter of Heroes”), this highly anticipated manga will make its debut in the upcoming issue of Gangan Joker on October 21st. To further heighten anticipation, the magazine shared a sneak peek of an illustration and story panels from the manga’s debut chapter.
“The Hero Party’s Pack Mule” will grace the opening pages of Gangan Joker’s November issue with a vibrant color spread, signaling the start of an epic adventure. Described as an “isekai adventure/equipment carrying fantasy,” the story unfolds in a world where the malevolent dark lord has already been vanquished. The focus shifts to the protagonist, Lidy, a character lacking in combat prowess but possessing a seemingly overlooked yet essential skill—carrying equipment. Lidy finds great honor in joining the ranks of the heroes’ party as their trusted equipment carrier. However, once the dark lord is defeated, Lidy bids farewell to the heroes on good terms, setting out on an exciting adventure of their own for the very first time.
In addition to “The Hero Party’s Pack Mule,” Homura Kawamoto has been actively working on other manga projects. “Bakumatsu Gambling Barbaroi,” currently available on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website, showcases Kawamoto’s storytelling prowess with art by Toyotaka Haneda. Moreover, August 2021 marked the release of another manga by Kawamoto titled “Humanity’s Existence Depends on Love Gambling with Another World’s Princess,” published in Akita Shoten’s Champion Red magazine.
The success of Kawamoto’s original creation, Kakegurui, cannot be overlooked. Teaming up with artist Toru Naomura, the duo debuted the Kakegurui- Compulsive Gambler manga in Gangan Joker back in March 2014. This thrilling series not only gained immense popularity but also served as the inspiration for a television anime adaptation, which aired from July to September 2017. The anime found its way to a global audience through Netflix’s streaming platform in February 2018. The second season of the anime premiered in January 2019, with Netflix later streaming it in June 2019.
Expanding the Kakegurui universe further, Homura Kawamoto’s original manga also spawned a captivating live-action adaptation consisting of 10 episodes, which is currently available for viewers to enjoy. Furthermore, fans can delve into the spinoff world of Kakegurui through the manga “Kakegurui Twin,” written by Katsura Saiki, which also received its own anime spinoff on Netflix.
With the announcement of “The Hero Party’s Pack Mule” and the continuous creative endeavors of Homura Kawamoto, fans have much to look forward to. Whether it’s exploring the realms of high-stakes gambling in Kakegurui or embarking on a thrilling fantasy adventure, Kawamoto’s talent for storytelling is sure to keep readers and viewers entertained for years to come.
