“Hisoka vs Chrollo” in Hunter X Hunter explained

One of the most highly anticipated battles in the Hunter x Hunter series is undoubtedly the showdown between Chrollo Lucilfer and Hisoka Morrow. This rivalry has been building since the Yorknew City arc, which took place in the early chapters of the manga and spanned over chapters 64 to 119. The Yorknew City arc saw one of the main characters, Kurapika Kurta, integrate into the mafia and confront members of the Phantom Troupe to avenge the massacre of his clan, the Kurta, for their coveted Scarlet Eyes. This move brought Kurapika closer to his goal of retrieving all of the stolen eyes of his clan.

At the end of the Yorknew City arc, fans were left with the promise of a fight between Hisoka and Chrollo. However, due to Chrollo’s inability to use nen at the time, the fight was postponed. After the Yorknew City arc, the story progressed to the Succession Contest arc, where the long-awaited battle finally took place. This epic battle was eagerly anticipated by fans for over 16 years, beginning with Chapter 351 of the manga, titled “Battle to the death,” which is 243 chapters after the Yorknew City arc.

The fight between Hisoka and Chrollo takes place in the Heaven’s Arena, a location fans have not seen since the Heavens Arena arc. Hisoka challenges Chrollo as a Floor Master, claiming that he wants his position, but in reality, Hisoka is simply looking to fulfill his desire to defeat Chrollo. The battle concludes with Hisoka’s defeat by death and then resurrection, which adds a surprising twist to the story.

Hisoka Morrow is one of the most memorable characters in the series, making his debut in the Hunter Exam arc. He is a Transmuter, which means he can change the properties of his nen, and in his case, he can transform it into a gum and rubber mixture. Hisoka has two main abilities: Bungee Gum and Texture Surprise. These abilities are not particularly powerful on their own, but Hisoka uses them to their fullest potential, making him a formidable opponent.

Hisoka is ranked 3rd among the Phantom Troupe members for raw strength, which makes him a physically powerful character. His incredible agility only adds to his strength. During the fight, Hisoka makes use of his Bungee Gum the most, decapitating some of the people that Chrollo sends after him and attaching their heads to one of the threads that he uses as a long-range weapon.

On the other hand, Chrollo Lucilfer is the leader of the Phantom Troupe, also known as the Spider. He is a Specialist, meaning his nen doesn’t follow any specific rules with how it works. Compared to Hisoka, Chrollo has many more abilities at his disposal, thanks to his Skill Hunter ability, a powerful nen skill that allows him to steal another nen user’s ability if certain conditions are fulfilled under one hour. During his fight against Hisoka, fans see a new nen ability developed by Chrollo called Bookmark, which allows him to use not one but two abilities from his Skill Hunter book by placing a bookmark on one of the used pages.

Chrollo also uses other stolen skills during the fight, including Sun and Moon, an ability stolen from an elder in Meteor City, which places a plus sign with the sun hand and a minus sign with the moon hand. When the two signs touch, they explode, and the power of the explosion depends on how long Chrollo takes to touch the marked zone. Chrollo also uses two stolen skills from his Phantom Troupe members, Kortopi’s ability to make copies and Sharlnark’s ability to control others.

The outcome of the fight between Chrollo and Hisoka is quite shocking and unexpected. After a long and intense battle, Hisoka is finally defeated by Chrollo. In a surprising turn of events, Chrollo uses his ability to create a sun and moon symbol on the floor, which explodes and kills Hisoka instantly. This comes as a shock to the readers and viewers as Hisoka was considered one of the strongest characters in the series and had been a prominent figure in the story from the beginning.

The fight between Chrollo and Hisoka is a testament to the intricate and strategic nature of battles in the world of Hunter x Hunter. The characters are constantly pushing themselves to their limits, both physically and mentally, in order to gain the upper hand. The battles are not simply contests of strength, but also of intelligence and strategy. Chrollo and Hisoka’s fight is a prime example of this, with both characters using their abilities in creative and unexpected ways to gain the advantage.

In addition to the fight between Chrollo and Hisoka, Hunter x Hunter also explores other complex themes and issues. The series delves into the moral complexities of being a hunter, a profession that often requires one to make difficult decisions and face dangerous situations. It also touches on the concepts of power and corruption, as characters struggle with the consequences of having great power and the temptation to use it for personal gain.

Overall, Hunter x Hunter is a captivating and thought-provoking series that explores a wide range of themes and issues. The series is known for its intricate plot, well-developed characters, and intense battles. Whether you are a fan of action, drama, or complex storytelling, Hunter x Hunter is a must-watch/read for any anime or manga fan.
