In a recent interview with Twinfinite, Kazutaka Kodaka, the creator of the popular video game franchise Danganronpa, explained why he decided to step away from the series for a while to work on a new project. His new game, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, is an original creation, and many fans were surprised to see Kodaka move away from Danganronpa instead of developing a new installment.

According to Kodaka, he was simply interested in trying something new and creating a new intellectual property. He said that he wasn’t pushed by Spike Chunsoft, the company behind Danganronpa, to make a new installment, and he decided to take the opportunity to work on something different.

Kodaka mentioned that he has a lot of ideas and wants to explore new avenues in game development, but he did not rule out the possibility of returning to the Danganronpa franchise in the future. He noted that he may go back to the series someday, as he still has an interest in it and Spike Chunsoft may be open to the idea of a new Danganronpa game.

However, he also pointed out that Danganronpa is a niche game and that he wanted to work on something bigger. He expressed his excitement for his new game, which he hopes will reach a wider audience than Danganronpa. In the end, Kodaka remains open to returning to Danganronpa, but for now, he is focused on exploring new creative possibilities with Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE.
