Ming-Na Wen and Lea Salonga lent their voices to Mulan. The film narrates the tale of a young girl who disguises herself as a boy to shield her father from war conscription.

Ming-Na Wen predominantly voiced Mulan, with Lea Salonga contributing her singing voice for the character’s musical moments. Salonga, a celebrated Broadway star and the first Asian actress to win a Tony Award in 1991, had earlier provided vocals for Jasmine in “Aladdin.” In contrast, Wen, simultaneously featured in “ER” and “Street Fighter,” was honored with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Wen’s trajectory has been marked by her roles in franchises such as “Star Wars,” DC, and Marvel. She notably portrayed Melinda May in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” for seven years and Fennec Shand in various “Star Wars” series. Salonga’s ascent in the entertainment world continued. She performed for prominent figures, released albums, judged on “The Voice” Philippines, and starred in the reboot series “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.” This year, Salonga graced Broadway with “Here Lies Love” and “Old Friends.”

Eddie Murphy voiced Mushu, Mulan’s comedic dragon companion. Initially famous for “Saturday Night Live,” Murphy is now an Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated actor known for iconic roles like “Shrek” movies and “Dreamgirls.”

Li Shang, Mulan’s love interest and general, was voiced by BD Wong and Donny Osmond. Wong, an established actor, extended his career through “Jurassic World” and series like “Gotham.” Donny Osmond, famous for his singing career and Broadway roles, continued as a touring performer.

Miguel Ferrer voiced Shan Yu, the antagonist. Ferrer, recognized from “Twin Peaks” and “Robocop,” passed away in 2017 after a rich acting career that encompassed Marvel and DC shows.

Harvey Fierstein voiced Yao, while Gedde Watanabe lent his voice to Ling, Mulan’s allies. Fierstein, also a playwright, acted and co-wrote musicals. Watanabe carried on his Hollywood journey, appearing in various TV series.

Freda Foh Shen voiced Mulan’s mother, Fa Li. Shen continued her acting journey, featuring in franchises like “Star Trek.”

Grandmother Fa’s voices were provided by June Foray and Marni Nixon, both of whom maintained their careers post-“Mulan.” Foray’s iconic characters included Granny from “Looney Tunes.” Nixon, known for her singing voice in numerous movies, Broadway, and TV series, passed away in 2016.

James Hong played Chi-Fu, while Miriam Margolyes portrayed The Matchmaker. Hong remains active in acting, including his role in the Oscar-winning “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Margolyes continued her vibrant acting journey, even making her Vogue debut at age 82.

Soon-Tek Oh voiced Fa Zhou, Mulan’s father. An Asian-American acting trailblazer, Oh continued acting for several years after “Mulan” and sadly passed away in 2018 at age 85.
