Disney World’s Magic Carpets of Aladdin Ride in Need of Complete Revamp

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin at Disney World Need a Whole New Make Over

I can point out a Disney World attraction in dire need of a significant overhaul. Disney World’s Magic Kingdom offers a wide range of exciting experiences suitable for all ages. Serving as the focal point of Walt Disney World, this family-friendly theme park hosts a plethora of thrilling roller coasters, captivating shows, and immersive dark rides. While it features beloved classics like Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean, Magic Kingdom caters to younger visitors with an array of attractions.

Throughout the park’s various themed lands, you’ll come across several rides that, despite their distinct appearances, share a common nature. In Storybook Circus, you have the beloved Dumbo ride, allowing guests to board their very own flying elephant and ascend into the sky while gently circling. It’s a favorite among kids! In Tomorrowland, a similar ride system can be found with the Astro Orbiter, lifting guests high above the enchanting sights and sounds of Magic Kingdom. One would think that two similar ride experiences would suffice, but in 2001, Disney World introduced a third attraction that elevates riders off the ground for a leisurely spin in circles above Adventureland. This time, the ride is themed after Aladdin’s iconic flying carpet.

While the Magic Carpets of Aladdin ride isn’t exactly my cup of tea, I often pass by it on my way to the Enchanted Tiki Room or Pirates of the Caribbean. Recently, as I navigated around the infamous spitting camel, I noticed a group of people gathered near the entrance to the Jungle Cruise. Naturally curious, I approached to see what had captured their attention when I heard it – a dreadful, cringe-inducing noise that could rival the sound of nails on a chalkboard. It was the unmistakable grating of mechanical components struggling to perform their duties. The culprit? The Magic Carpets of Aladdin.

It appears that I’m not the only one who has been disturbed by the dreadful noise emanating from the ride of late. TikTok user @sirbrayden had a similar experience with the ear-piercing sound that the flying carpets are now producing. Take a look (and listen) for yourself – ensure your sound is on!

Brayden astutely declared that the ride should be condemned, and frankly, having personally witnessed the same issue, I can’t disagree with him. I’ve always found it somewhat underwhelming that Disney World features three identical ride types within the same park. We’re not discussing boat rides that traverse different narrative landscapes. Instead, it’s a hydraulic lift that sends you spinning in circles, and they’ve replicated it THREE TIMES! However, it seems Disney may have no choice but to reduce the count to two, as the Magic Carpets of Aladdin are unquestionably struggling. The attraction has been left in a deplorable state and is in dire need of either repair or replacement. If the Carpet made such a noise in the 1992 film Aladdin, there’s no doubt Princess Jasmine would have made a hasty retreat.
