Sango is a well-written character in Inuyasha

Inuyasha, an anime series by Rumiko Takahashi, has garnered a huge fan following since its release. Among the various characters in the series, Sango stands out as one of the best. She is a powerful demon slayer and a member of the main supporting cast. Despite being one of the strongest demon slayers of all time, her character development is often overlooked, and she is not talked about as heavily as some of the other main heroes in the series.

Sango’s backstory is one of the most compelling and heartbreaking stories among the main cast of Inuyasha. She hails from a village of demon slayers, where she and her brother Kohaku were trained to become great demon slayers like their father, who was also the leader of the village. However, her world turned upside down when her brother was possessed by a spider demon and killed their father and fellow demon slayers. Sango was also attacked and left for dead by the castle guards, but she managed to pull herself from the grave and was “saved” by Kagewaki. Soon after, she was manipulated by Naraku to kill Inuyasha but ended up traveling with him, Kagome, Miroku, and Shippo to help repair the Shikon Jewel.

What sets Sango apart from other female characters in Inuyasha is her bold personality. She is strong-willed and self-sacrificing, which is shown on many occasions throughout the series. In Episode 50, she even contemplated killing her brother and then herself to save him from Naraku’s clutches. Her strong and defiant personality also sets her apart from the other cast members and from Takashi’s other heroines. She is not a damsel in distress but a warrior who fights alongside her friends and is not afraid to get her hands dirty.

Sango’s journey in Inuyasha is not just about her character development, but also about her relationship with the other members of the cast. Unlike Kagome, Miroku, Inuyasha, and Shippo, who joined the group over the span of a single episode, Sango was initially distrustful of the others. However, she slowly grew to appreciate their friendship and trust them. Her friendship with Miroku is particularly noteworthy, as he is constantly harassing unsuspecting village girls, earning him a whack from Sango’s weapon, Hiraikotsu. Despite this, they share a deep bond, and Miroku often supports Sango emotionally during tough times.

In conclusion, Sango is one of the most interesting characters in Inuyasha, and her personality, character development, and relationships make her a compelling female heroine. Her backstory and struggles add depth to her character, and her strength and self-sacrifice make her a formidable ally to have on one’s side. Despite being overshadowed by some of the other main heroes, Sango remains one of the best characters in the series even now.
