The battle for a spot in the new generation Shonen Big Three heats up as Demon Slayer faces a new challenger. A recent Twitter fanpage poll stirred up discussions among anime enthusiasts, questioning which anime should be excluded from the lineup: Fire Force, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, or the rising sensation Chainsaw Man. Surprising responses ensued.

Can Fire Force surpass Demon Slayer in securing a position in the new Shonen Big Three? Fans wasted no time sharing their opinions. While no series was completely rejected, the main clash centered around Fire Force and Demon Slayer.

Some argue that Fire Force lacks the widespread recognition that Demon Slayer achieved when it took the internet by storm in 2019. As a result, they suggest Fire Force should be replaced by Demon Slayer. Curiously, some fans questioned the absence of My Hero Academia and Black Clover.

Nevertheless, despite being less well-known, Fire Force boasts a dedicated fanbase fiercely defending their favorite series. While no final verdict has been reached, Demon Slayer appears to have the upper hand.

Demon Slayer follows the story of Tanjiro, a demon hunter seeking vengeance for his family and a cure for his sister Nezuko, who has turned into a demon. Fire Force revolves around Shinra Kusakabe, a third-generation pyrokinetic youth, as he joins the Special Fire Force Company 8 in the fictional Tokyo Empire, unraveling hidden secrets along the way.

The concept of the Big Three in anime represents an elite tier in the shonen genre, a status achieved by only a select few. Previously, the Big Three consisted of massive series like Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece, which have stood the test of time. The new generation of anime fans is now eager to crown the successors to this prestigious tier. The contenders, based on popularity and impact, include My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man, among others.

In summary, the unwritten criteria for the shonen Big Three involves a gripping hero’s journey, where the protagonist starts from nothing and rises to great heights with the power of friendship and facing formidable foes. The aforementioned anime series have fittingly met this criterion.
