Avatar Kyoshi’s role was explained by the star of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender

In a recent interview with Cliché Magazine, Yvonne Chapman, who is set to play Avatar Kyoshi in Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, shared some details about her character’s role in the series. According to Chapman, Kyoshi will serve as a “source of tough love for Aang” and will provide him with advice when he needs it most. She described Kyoshi as a “very fierce person” who often has a different perspective from other Avatars, and explained that she will guide Aang in what needs to be done in his circumstances.

Chapman also expressed her confidence in the showrunners and creators of the live-action series, noting that they have a deep respect for the source material and the audience that grew up with the original animated show. She praised Gordon Cormier, who will play Aang in the series, and expressed excitement to see the final product.

The live-action series boasts an impressive cast, with Daniel Dae Kim playing Firelord Ozai and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee portraying fan-favorite character Uncle Iroh. Kiawentiio will play Katara, and Ian Ousley will portray Sokka. With such talented actors on board, fans have high hopes for the adaptation.

Aside from the live-action series, the Avatar franchise is set to expand in other ways. An animated movie is slated for release in October 2025, which will follow Aang and his friends as adults. Meanwhile, another project will adapt the events of the Chronicles of the Avatar novels by F. C. Yee, with a casting call having gone out earlier this year for the character of Hei-Ran, who trained Avatar Kyoshi as a firebender.
