Disney CEO Bob Iger has unveiled the release dates for several upcoming films, outlining the company’s new strategy that prioritizes sequels and established franchises to enhance the quality of their offerings. During an earnings call on February 7, 2024, Iger disclosed the release schedule for various Disney movies, with specific dates for Zootopia 2 and Moana 2 among them.
Iger assured investors of Disney’s commitment to its franchises, revealing that the studio is focusing on producing sequels and expanding existing franchises to elevate the overall quality of its content. Notably, Zootopia 2 is set to hit theaters on November 26, 2025, with several more releases planned for 2025 and 2026.
In a surprising move, Disney announced the upcoming release of a Moana sequel on November 27, 2024, originally conceived as a TV series but later adapted into a feature film due to its impressive quality. Iger emphasized the success of the original Moana, which garnered over 1 billion minutes of viewing time on Disney+ in 2023 alone.
The updated Disney release schedule includes titles such as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Inside Out 2, Deadpool 3, Alien: Romulus, Mufasa: The Lion King, Captain America: Brave New World, Fantastic 4, Thunderbolts, Blade, Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, and The Mandalorian and Grogu, all slated for release between 2024 and 2026.
It’s important to note that release dates for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films are subject to change, considering the ongoing alterations within the franchise due to writer and actor strikes, as well as real-life controversies surrounding key characters like Kang the Conqueror.
