“Sword Art Online -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night Receives North American Release Window”
The highly anticipated movie, Sword Art Online -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night, now has an official release window for its North American theatrical premiere. During the Sword Art Online panel at Aniplex of America, it was announced that the movie would debut sometime in February 2023. A new English-dubbed trailer was revealed, confirming the return of voice actors Cherami Leigh and Bryce Papenbrook as Asuna and Kirito respectively. The Japanese version features Haruka Tomatsu and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka reprising their roles as the lead characters.
Based on Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online -Progressive- light novels, the movie series expands on the “Aincrad” story arc, delving into the events that take place on individual floors of the virtual world. Scherzo of Deep Night focuses on the fifth floor, a sprawling maze-like ruin, where Asuna and Kirito team up to overcome challenges and defeat the boss. The trailers promise intense battles and emotional moments, while also hinting at lighter interactions between the protagonists.
Originally scheduled for September 10, the movie premiered in Japan on October 22 after experiencing delays due to COVID-19 cases. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind the successful Aria of a Starless Night, produced the sequel with several key members of the creative team returning. Fans of Reki Kawahara can also look forward to his new light novel series, Demon’s Crest, and the availability of the original Sword Art Online anime on streaming platforms like Hulu and Crunchyroll.
